Hernandez Consulting & Construction completed underwater dredging with vacuum run by men. A 500-ton crawler crane was placed on a barge to assist the diver to dredge drydock area and place in the channel for the U.S. Corp of Engineers to move that. Since this project was not traditional design-build, the designers were hired directly by the Navy. The design team and the navy would meet with the contractor monthly to discuss topics that arose during the project and adjust the schedule. Due to the security of the navy base, careful planning and scheduling occurred to ensure that we did not have a diver in the water when a submarine was scheduled to dock.
