Hernandez Consulting & Construction completed a contract from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to raise a nine-mile stretch of Jefferson Parish’s Mississippi River Levee. The work consisted of raising the downstream portion of the East Jefferson Levee District Mississippi River Levee by removing the multi-purpose access roadway and various permitted vehicle crossings and adding approximately two feet of material. Hernandez replaced the all-weather access road and permitted vehicle and recreational trail once the dirt work was complete. Work at this location included the removal of 175 trees, and the area was back filled as to not threaten the integrity of the levee.

The entire project was divided into two segments, beginning with a 4.2-mile stretch that starts at the Orleans Parish line. Following the completion of the first stretch, the second 4.6-mile segment from Orchard Road to the St. Charles Parish was completed.
